The course deals with an introduction to the basic processes of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere. Term three and part of Term four covers the atmosphere and hydrosphere components with topics like atmospheric gasses, the radiation budget, global wind circulation, the weather of SA, and the flow and measurement of water through the hydrologic cycle. These topics are important for an understanding of where water comes from, as well as for understanding water resource management and protection. The rest of Term four covers the processes of the lithosphere, in other words the role of water in shaping the earth’s surface.
